Full Practice Bill Scheduled for a Hearing
We have news that will make your Friday! Our full practice bill, H.B. 1792, has been scheduled for a public hearing this Thursday, April 4, 2019 starting at 8:00 AM (see notice here.) Our expedited APRN licensure bill, H.B. 912, was also scheduled for a hearing that day.
This has already been a tremendous session for our full practice authority campaign, and for our legislative efforts overall. Two of our bills, H.B. 278 (virtual meetings bill) and 387 (worker’s comp signature bill) were already voted out of committee, our Senator full practice bill was referred to the favorable Senate Business & Commerce Committee just last week, and now our House full practice bill is scheduled for a public hearing.
What can you do to help?
-
Join Our Twitter and Facebook Rally: Throughout the day on April 4th, we will be posting photos of nurse practitioners and supporters holding their “Support H.B. 1792” signs. We want our bill to trend on Thursday and fill your social media newsfeed. Download and print the sign here. You can tag us on Facebook @TexasNP or send your photos to erin@texasnp.org.
-
Send us Support Letters: Send us a written a letter of support (see sample here, and our Key Messages), and we will hand-deliver these to the members of the House Public Health Committee the day of the hearing.
-
Tune in or Attend the Hearing: The subcommittee hearing could take up the whole day and go into the morning hours, so we do not know when H.B. 1792 will be heard in the lineup. But we'll send a notice and you can watch a livestream of the hearing online here. If you plan to attend, the hearing room is located in E2.012 (see Capitol building map here).
Please note: at this time, we do not need additional NPs to deliver oral testimony, as the Coalition for Health Care Access (Full Practice Coalition) has invited testifiers who have been thoroughly prepped for this important day. But we do need your support on social media and your letters to make this day a success.
Send us good vibes and luck for this Thursday. Texas legislature, here we come!
